Museum director (2013-2024)
YEUNG Chun Tong B.A., M. Phil. (H.K.)
Mr Yeung was the founding Museum Director of Sun Museum since May 2013 until he passed away in 2024. (Obituary)
Previously, he was the Director of the University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) from 1997 to 2012. He worked in the Hong Kong Museum of Art before joining the University in 1977. During the 35 years of service with the University Museum and Art Gallery, he had curated over 300 art exhibitions and edited numerous exhibition catalogues. In addition, he had given 120 public lectures on Chinese art and culture in the University Museum and Art Gallery from September 2010 to June 2012 when he retired. Each lecture had a specific and individual topic. When he served the Chinese Temples Committee, he presented over 20 public lectures on the relationship between Daoist deities belief and moral education. After the opening of Sun Museum, he had conducted 106 public lectures from August 2015 to December 2021.
Mr Yeung had written four books on Chinese culture: Flavours of Life ( published by Sik Sik Yuen, 2013), Unfailing Wisdom (published by Sun Museum, 2015), Evolving Monolith (published by Sun Museum, 2020), and A Life Story of Mixed Emotions (published by Sun Museum, 2020). The cartoon illustrations in the books are all drawn by him.
Mr Yeung was appointed Honorary Associate Professor in the Faculty of Arts, HKU since the 1990s. He helped the Department of Fine Arts teach Chinese connoisseurship, Chinese ceramics, Chinese materials culture and museum management skills. In addition, he was Adjunct Professor at the School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE), HKU.
He was awarded Visiting Fellow, Canberra School of Art, The Australian National University in 1997 and Visiting Scholar, the Tokyo National Museum in 1999. He gained another overseas working experience in the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco in 1997.
As regards his community services, Mr Yeung is currently Museum Advisor, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Hong Kong; Honorary Advisor, Hong Kong Society For Education In Art; Advisor (Art and Culture), Ching Chung Taoist Association of Hong Kong Ltd.; and Committee Member, Taoist Culture Research Centre, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
In the past, he had served as Gallery Advisor, The Asia Society Hong Kong Centre; Advisor, City University Gallery, City University of Hong Kong; Advisor, The Ink Society, Hong Kong; Member of the Archive Committee, The Hong Kong Institute of Education; Member of the Working Group on Museums, Culture and Heritage Commission; Member of the Museum Advisory Group, West Kowloon Cultural District; Member of the Chinese Temples Committee, Hong Kong and Chairman of its Working Group on Development and Culture; External Advisor, The Hong Kong Art School (a division of Hong Kong Arts Centre); Member of the Steering Committee of "Yau Ma Tei Theatre - Venue Partnership Scheme", The Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong; Visual Arts Advisor, Hong Kong Arts Development Council and Registered Director, Concerted Efforts Resource Centre Limited (a non-profit-making organisation).
