Foreword

Sponsored by Simon Suen Foundation and co-organised by Jao Tsung-I Academy and Sun Museum, the Hong Kong Emerging Artists exhibition aims to provide a free platform for young local artists to showcase their works, enabling audiences to discover their artistic styles, and to support their journey towards becoming shining stars in the art world. We also hope to carry forward the vision of the world-renowned sinologist, Professor Jao Tsung-i, to revive Chinese culture, encouraging young artists to unleash their unique creativity while valuing Chinese cultural heritage, producing innovative works that contribute a new chapter to the development of Hong Kong’s visual arts.

The Hong Kong Emerging Artists initiative recruits local artists aged 18 to 40 through an open call, selecting works that demonstrate creativity, technical skill, and elements of Chinese cultural artistry. The Phase 1 and Phase 2 exhibitions, held in 2024, featured 11 artists and showcased over 80 artworks, achieving excellent results and receiving positive feedback from audiences. Building on the success of these phases, the Phase 3 and Phase 4 exhibitions are scheduled for 2025 to 2026, 10 artists have been selected for the Hong Kong Emerging Artists exhibition: Yau Ngai Lam, Ho Lok Chung, Chou Chiu Ming, Cheung Chu Yin, and Hon Ngan Ting for the Phase 3 exhibition; and Wong Siu Chuen, Yeung Tsz King, Yeung Nga Fei, Chung Chun Kau, and Hon Ka Yi for the Phase 4 exhibition. Their works are diverse, encompassing both two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces in media such as watercolour, acrylic, ink painting, calligraphy, seal carving, ceramics, and sculpture. Coming from various walks of life, they share a passion and dedication to art, creating in their spare time to express distinct artistic voices and present innovative perspectives to audiences, revealing exceptional artistic talent.
